Dear earth friends, I'm sorry I didn't write this post earlier today. It's been busy. Anyhow, I thought this thing I found on the internet would be good for today... so without further adieu:
Eight Plastic Habits To Break
1: Plastic utensils. You know, the plastic forks, spoons and knives you get at fast food establishments and stuff. Really bad for the earth. Instead, pack a handy dandy spork whenever you go out. Sporks are very useful because you could go out to eat and get a soup or a salad and not have to use a throw away plastic utensil.
2: Straws. Straws get caught on beaches, parks and anywhere really. Animals eat them or get them stuck in their noses. Straws aren't good for the environment at all. The best thing you can do is always avoid using one. You can easily sip your drink without one or save up your money to buy a reusable stainless steel one and pack it along with your spork.
3: Bottled water. Plastic water bottles are also bad for the animals and environment. Many animals choke on them or swallow them like with straws. Also A LOT of oil is used to make each bottle. Each and every bottle. Some of the bottled water is just tap water anyway. So instead, just drink from a tap or bring a reusable water bottle to add to your spork and straw.
4: Takeaway coffee cups. There is plastic that lines the inside of the cup which is not biodegradable. The lids are just as bad. Instead use a reusable coffee cup. You can add this to your spork and straw and water bottle if you want.
5: Plastic toothbrushes. It's not something you would usually think of right?! Well there you go, the truth. Nooooooooo! You can buy a bamboo toothbrush if you can find one. If not, there are also toothbrushes on the market made from recycled plastic (good plastic). I'm just gonna stop brushing my teeth altogether. Heh heh, just kidding mom!
6: Plastic shopping bags. Many places are now either banning them or charging extra for them. When you go to the store bring a bag (or several) of your own. If you accidentally leave them in the car (like my mother :)), have your child or yourself go back out and get them. It's always worth the extra work if you're helping the environment.
7: Take-out containers. Okay, so I know you're already carrying a spork, a straw, a water bottle and possibly a reusable coffee cup, but let's just go the whole nine yards shall we? What if I said you should carry a plate or two too? Why? Because plastic take-out containers are just terrible for the earth. Not as bad as straws and water bottles, but still pretty bad. You can pack that plate or two of yours into your bag of other stuff and use them for whenever you eat at a restaurant and have food left over. It's a green idea to go along with that spork!
8: Plastic wrapped toilet paper. Really? It's just dumb. But easy to fix. Just buy toilet paper wrapped in paper. I have not found a brand yet but hopefully will soon. Don't carry this in your bag, though!
Have I done all of these things? Not yet, but hey! I'm just a kid right? If everyone did even just one or two of these, our planet would feel a little better already. And then there would be no point in manufacturing more of these things!
Bye for now!
